Great blog post...Pam said on video that she believed "Timmy" didn't care about the law...meanwhile "Pammy" is in and out of court habitually!

Does she call the Governor "Billy?"

I hope everyone would email Scripps with the link to this video and show what a mess McElroy and Barker have allowed the News-Sentinel to degenerate into because of their personal vendettas.

Shock and Awe-some!!! Great job standing up for yourself! Little Jack has used the Open Records Act and placed you on his hit list! Today, you have turned the tables and used state certified documentation to go after his "Posse" and gang of "keyboard bullies!"

  4. Oh whats a few thousand in tax liens amongs friends trying to do a smear campaign on Mayor Burchette?

Maybe the Mayor's suit for malicious prosecution will include the News Sentinel, the E.W. Scripps Co. and then and only then will they pay attention to who they let sling ink around on the daily rags pages.

Simply encourage the businesses and restaurants you patronize not to advertise in the Knoxville NewsSentinel.

Was Pam Strickland granted an extended writing contract at the KNS because of her signing the complaint against Tim Burchett?

Strickland had said her contract would expire soon last July. She is still writing for the KNS. What happened?

This is unethical if there was a consideration for her signing the complaint.

Sounds to me like she has a problem paying her rent. A FORCIBLE ENTRY/DETAINER is issued to landlords as part of the eviction process. Good to see she was actually pursued for the back rent. Many landlords just walk away from the bad debt. I bet that is what she was hoping for.

"Was Pam Strickland granted an extended writing contract at the KNS because of her signing the complaint against Tim Burchett?"

I would assume any contract extension was based on her writing abilities and knowledge of public issues.

You mean you don't think that is the case, lol.

The only problem with the comparison between Strickland and Burchett is that Burchett is a public figure.

Strickland is a private citizen and i see no indication that she has not been held acountable for her actions/finances as a private citizen would be held accountable.

The issue is whether Burchett is accountable as an elected official and whether or not he broke any laws.

Anonymous, I would say you are mistaken. If she were just a journalist then perhaps, with a long stretch, I could say you are correct. However, when she moves her style of journalism into incorporating personal bias and commentary – with the intent of influencing opinion and policy, she becomes a public figure just like those she reports on. Under your definition of a public figure she should be subject to the same rules you outlined.

Andrew I can respect our differences in opinion. I would have been more correct to describe Burchett as not only a public figure but an elected official. Pam Strickland is certainly not an elected official. An elected official has specific legal responsibilities, not the least of which are related to campaign financing. Burchett needs to be held to the legal standards of an elected official.

Strickland needs to be held to the legal standard of a private citizen, although I concede that by virtue of her activities she has made herself a public figure. It would seem to me that Strickland has felt the whip of the legal master and apparently paid the price for any possible financial mistakes.

It is consistent with his position as an elected official that Burchett should be called to court to anwer for any possible mistakes, intentional or unintentional.

  11. To infer the layperson Ethics and/or 5 person panel is a court of law is just stupid

"Burchett should be called to court"

The Registry is not a court.

Nowhere near being one in function or form.
