Farragut and Bearden In The Same District? The Battle of West Knoxville Just Heated Up

I don't know that the battle of West Knoxville could get any hotter. But, thanks to TSSAA it just might happen. In this news story, found in today's News-Sentinel it appears that a re-shuffling of area schools will put the following schools in Class AAA, District 4, Farragut, Bearden, William Blount, Heritage, Hardin Valley, Maryville, West, Lenoir City and South-Doyle. In the past the regular season game between Farragut and Bearden did not mean anything as far as standing in the district. Thus a loss to Farragut in August or September , didn't hurt Bearden in advancing to state in October/November. However, they would and did met in the first rounds of state because they were in different districts. Now the regular season game will mean allot more.

It appears that any decision TSSAA makes will not take effect until 2009.

I thought it was interesting that a reason behind this was rising transportation costs. Now if we can only get the county to pay attention to the same thing with respect to long range planning and locating schools within the community they serve.

Every game between Farragut and Bearden means something because it's the most intense rivalry in Knoxville. The bigger issue is adding Maryville Football in this mix!!
