Have You Seen This? Probably NOT
All the controversary over Pat Robertson's comment and where have you seen that he actually has apologized. We all have said things that we regret saying and have said things that were interputed incorrectly, it follows us forever. Well, guess what we're all sinners. Jesus was and continues to be the only sinless man. It demonstrates real character for Robertson to apologize

Governor Phil Bredesen on Message
How did I miss this story. The Tennessean on August 7, 2005 had this story about liberal United States Senator Joe Biden and his talk with the Tennessee Democrat Leadership. At this event Governor Bredesen is quoted as saying. Talk to people, you normally wouldn't talk politics with. Mainly listen for what they are looking for.
I hope that this state is smart enough to catch you on this one.
In other words, let's tell them what they want to hear and then we will do what we want once we have the power. Kind of like a guy that professed to be a business man and then his answer to a couple of sexual harassment cases is to shred the documents. Kind of like a guy that professed to be able to improve education, and the graduation rates were inflated. Kind of like a guy that professed to be able to recruit new and better jobs for Tennessean's and then the unemployment rate rises in Tennessee while it declines nationwide.
Oh wait. That is the Bredesen road show.

Swamp Rat back on the air
In the most bizarre announcements that I have seen or heard, The Swamp Rat Dewey Warren announced that he will be back on the air doing Sports Talk radio from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm on WKVL AM 850 which will be simulcast on WATO 1290 AM Oak Ridge, WLOD 1140 AM Sweetwater and WGAP 1400 Am Blount and Sevier County.
What made this announcement so bizarre? You ask. He announced it on The Voice radio program hosted by Lloyd Daugherty and Kelvin Moxley on WVLZ 1180 Am. WVLZ's trademark radio program is Tony Bassilo which runs from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm.
That means that the Swamp Rat will be attempting to compete head to head with Bassilo and Lloyd allowed the Swamp Rat to announce it on the competing airwaves.
I am and will continue to be an avid listener to Bassilio from 11:00 am - 1:00pm (he's independent) and I felt it was a low blow to announce Tony's competitor on the same station that Tony is on.

Farragut High School Football
Last night I attended the season opening high school football game for the Farragut High Shool Admirals. I have attended virtually every home football game and most away games for the past three to four years. I even attended all 4 quarters of the "hurricane thursday game" last year. It never stopped raining.
Last evening was a stuggle for both the Central High Bobcats and the Admirals, until a break or two went Central's way. With about 7 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter there was a mass exodus for the gates.
This is troubling for me, on a couple of fronts. One, these are 15 - 18 or 19 year old kids giving it all the have and are not getting paid for it. Second, the coaches are giving it everything they can, they work untold hours for a minimal stipend that the Knox County School Board threatend to take away this year. Third, Coach Eddie Courtney is giving all he has and more. You have read that he is battling a form of cancer and he is having extensive radiation treatment. (He doesn't want symphathy, he knows God has a plan, and he has endured far greater than any of us could or would) The parents of these student athletes are giving it everything they have. So, they get no support from the administration and the school board. The only support they get is from those of us in the community.
I realize we all have busy schedules and those with younger children have to get home and put them in bed, so an early exit doesn't always indicate frustration with wins or loses.
As a youth coach volunteer, there have been games where I wanted to leave early, but the coaches and student athletes can't leave early.
Coach Courtney and Admirals, We appreciate you. GO Admirals!!!!

TN Attorney General - A Heman Woman Hater???
TN AG Censor Paul Summers is spinning his head off. He issues a press release declaring victory. Gretchen Wilson relented and bowed to his criticism. This makes Gretchen a much better person than she should have been.
Now the TN AG can go back to his real job, since he whipped the country music lady into line. A question, Does this make him a member of the heman woman hater's club?
I do not use any tobacco, however I see an opportunity for Gretchen's adult fans to purchase any form of round smokeless tobacco cans and when she sings Skoal Ring in concert, the audience will raise the round cans.
Mr. Attorney General that really solves your dilemma , doesn't it?

Tennessee AG Out Of Touch
Thank You Tennessee Supreme Court! NOT. You appoint Paul Summers as Tennessee Attorney General and he spends his time trying to censor Gretchen Wilson. I had many people tell me that Gretchen was a one hit wonder, with Redneck Woman.
Her debut CD has many hits on it and her second CD will be released on September 27th. Not bad for a supposed one hit wonder.
It is time to tell Attorney General Summers to leave Gretchen alone. The only way she has violated the law that he professes that she may violate is if she and U.S. Smokeless tobacco conspired to write the song. U.S. Smokeless has stated they have NO agreement or contract with her. That should be the end of the story.

First we had Tipper Gore censoring rock artist and now Summers attempting to censor country artist.

Knox County Schools and Hidden Cameras
On WBIR and WATE reports have surfaced that a hidden camera was placed in a teachers lounge where teachers would sometimes change clothes. WATE reports that it is in a cheerleaders changing room.
The real story here is that someone (do not know if it is faculty or students) was stealing snacks and soft drinks and the school districts security department set up security surveillance. Kind of reminds me of the Knoxville Hyatt Regency story. A guest found a camera in the bathroom of a guest room that had been forgotten, more or less.
The question is how many of these do the Knox County School System have? How often do they use them? Who (Knox County taxpayers, State Taxpayers or Federal taxpayers), the bottom line WE paid for them? Is this the role of the school district? When the owner of the snacks and softdrinks lost the first couple they should have just moved them to a secure closet.
School Board Member Cindy Buttry proposed and she was right, turn over security to the Sheriffs Department and Police Department. We shouldn't have duplicated security officers. One that answer to the schools and one that answers to the sheriff.
We simply need our kids protected. The elected sheriff can handle the job, he solves murders, armed robberies and traffic accidents, surely his officers can handle a soft drink and snack thief.

Chuck Hagel leaving the GOP - Thank YOU Chucky
According to GOP bloggers as reported by anlkebiting pundits and National Review Online. Chuck Hagel is considering becoming an independent. I believe that is exactly what the traitor should do.
In my opinion, there is no room in the GOP tent for a sitting senator to compare our operation in Iraq to Vietnam.

Worst News of The Day - Coach Bob Huggins Fired
New University President Nancy Zimpher forced Cincinnati Mens Basketball Coach out. These University President's do not understand the impact of athletics on their schools. Without Coach Huggins and a successful basketball program how many Cincinnati Bearcat apparel would have been sold and portion of the royalty retained by the university. How many high school graduates looked at Cincinnati as a University because of the successful basketball program. It brought a positive influence on the University.
This President is about as smart as Pete Boone, the illegitimate athletic director at Ole Miss that replaced David Cutcliffe with Ed whatever his name is. The same Ed that participated in barroom brawls in Miami. The same Ed that had domestic violence charges brought against him.
My question to President Zimpher, Who are you going to replace Coach Huggins with? The best thing for you to do is not to make these young men suffer, dismantle the basketball program today. The sports fans in the Cincinnati area have Louisville and Kentucky to pull for.

AFL-CIO See The Real Governor Phil Bredesen
This morning Tom Humphrey in the Knoxville News-Sentinel writes about the AFL-CIO and their reaction to Governor Bredesen.
Jim Bass, President of the Knoxville -Oak Ridge Area Central Labor Council is quoted in the story. "I knocked on doors for Bredesen last time. I'll stay at the house on this one,""I think he's done the working class people of Tennessee wrong,""He's gutted worker's comp. He's gutted TennCare."
What I can say about this is Mr. Bass you are correct. Bredesen has gutted TennCare, while promising in 2002 to fix it, he told the citizens of this state that he had the experience to fix it and yet he gutted it.

Governor Phil Bredesen on Graduation Rates
The Tennessean July 14, 2005 identifys a disturbing trend with Governor Bredesen and his liberal democrat control of the State of Tennessee.
Governor Bredesen and the State Board of Education have not been reporting the graduation rates correctly. The State Board of education has reported an impressive 75.7 percent graduation rate. However Dr. Jay P. Greene, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute for Polict Research calculated the rate for the last year for which national comparative data is available. The Education Trust, another independent group found the exact same disjunct between Tennessee's claimed and actual graduation rates.
The graduation rate is 57 percent, ranking Tennessee as 48th among the 50 states. Tennessee is the only state attempting to pump up its own graduation rate.
Tennessee in 1991 had a graduation rate rate of 69 percent to more recently at 57 percent. This is troubling that the graduation rate has declined and that the liberal democrat control is not being honest about graduation rates, all at a time when the lottery is providing scholarships.
Remember liberal democrat Senator Steve Cohen promised the lottery to be the end all cure to our miserable failure at the number of students attending college after high school. Those of us opposed to the lottery knew that it would move those that need a high school diploma into the drop-out ranks.

U.S. Representative Katherine Harris R-Florida 13th District
On my links under Republican, I have included the link to Representative Katherine Harris blog. Congresswoman Harris represents the 13th district of Florida. I support her efforts to become the next United States Senator from Florida. Here's hoping the liberal democrat Bill Nelson will be sent home and Representative Harris can demonstrate what a real woman in the Senate is like, unlike the miserable examples of Hillary Clinton, Diane Fienstein, Barbara Boxer etc.

Governor Phil Bredesen on Job Growth
Check the story in the Business section of the Tennessean on Friday July 29, 2005. Governor Phil Bredesen has taken our state backwards in regard to job growth. The jobless rate in the month of June rose 5.1% according to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development released on July 28, 2005.
A survey of businesses revealed that the number of jobs grew by about 11,900 over the previous year, a rate of 1.7%.
Wayne County has the highest rate of unemployment at 13.5%.
When you consider President Bush and the Republican Congress and Senate's success with job growth and the economy (minus the gas prices). What is the explanation for Tennessee's rising unemployment rates? A Governor that is not right for creating new jobs or for managing the states job growth to benefit the citizens.

Governor Phillip Bredesen on TennCare
In 2002 Bredesen toured the State of Tennessee as a conservative democrat candidate that was the health care manager/guru that could and would fix TennCare. He was elected for the sole purpose of fixing TennCare, because that was the primary issue that he and Congressman Hilleary talked about in the campaign. So, what has the health care guru/manager accomplished in his fix for TennCare.
In 2003 he formed an advisory committee that resulted in No reform.
In 2004 he passed two pieces of legislation. He appeared with State Senator Tommy Kilby in the Senator's district and said "Senator Kilby and I are fixing TennCare". Senator Kilby's district in some counties have more than 95% of its residents on TennCare.
In 2005 what was the fix that Phillip had for the citizens on TennCare? His answer; He takes away the medication that is keeping so many people alive, and burdens them with a heavy financial burden that the middle income and working poor are unable to absorb. Is this the kind of conservative, compassionate Governor that our State elected? Is this the kind of healthcare manager/guru that our state hired? A healthcare manager/guru Governor that would burden thousands of its citizens, with an unattainable reponsibility.

Governor Phil Bredesen
The previous post about liberal democrat Chairman Tuke, that speaks "political hack hogwash". That post has compelled me to begin a series of posts that will highlight over the next several days and weeks the various issues that I believe are reasons that a Good Republican candidate for Governor will remove Bredesen from office.
With all the places that Phil Bredesen's fingerprints are showing up, he is moving toward securing his place with the likes of Ray Blanton and income tax Governor Don Sundquist.

Bob Tuke - "typical party hack hogwash"
In the morning edition of the KnoxvilleNews-Sentinel is a story where Bob Tuke, the NEW Tennessee Democrat Party Chairman is criticizing several members of the Legislature that are Republican for Tuke's percieved conflicts and unethical behavior.
Representative Jason Mumpower got it right "typical party hack hogwash". Remember Tuke was not the first choice for state chairman of the liberal democrat party. Randy Button was Chairman and left the state party for a lucrative employment deal with Horne Properties.
Chairman Tuke needs to be reminded that he has three out of four arrested, indicted legislators as members of the liberal democrat party. Former Hamilton County School Board Member Charles Love, who plead guilty last week was known to support democrat candidates. Arrested and indicted Former Senator Roscoe Dixon is a democrat.
This is an attempt by Tuke to remove the focus from his indicted legislators to a percieved conflict on Republican members that have and continue to follow the law.
Chairman Tuke - your dog won't hunt.

Knox County Mayor Mike Ragsdale Sets The Record Straight
It is interesting that derogatory comments are still being made in the local newspaper (Knoxville News-Sentinel) about Knox County Mayor Mike Ragsdale's commitment to education by school board members. I am happy to see our County Mayor set the record straight.
$29 million NEW dollars for the school district the past three years, in addition to receiving additional dollars from the savings in mowing, payroll and telecommunications consolidation. The county taking the debt retirement for the $40 million dollar Hardin Valley High School and the $15 million dollar PPU money. As our Mayor points out $29 million dollars is more than library, parks and recreation and health departments combined.

State Representative Parkey Strader
Two pieces of legislation for the upcoming 2006 legislative session that will be introduced by my State Representative Park M. "Parkey" Strader will be
1) A one year moratorium on lobbyist providing meals for legislator's
2) Declaring English as the official language.
This past year, was Parkey's first year in the legislature (he replaced retired legislator H.E. Bittle). Our district has been served by exceptional talent over the years. Representative Bittle had a distinguished career serving the district and in house leadership for a number of years.
Parkey is always responsive and works hard in representing the district. This certainly was a unique year to serve your first year in the legislature, with the arrest of Democrat Senator John Ford, Democrat Senator Katherine Bowers, Democrat Senator Ward Crutchfield and Republican Representative Chris Newton.
No one could stand taller for us than Parkey. Keep up the good work.

President George W. Bush and Ashley
There is a heart moving story about Ashley from Lebanon, Ohio and our President George W. Bush.
It is Great having a President that is not a fraud, like the couple that occupied the White House from 1993 - 2001.

KC Democrat Chairman explains his work schedule
On August 12, 2005 at 10:50 am Knox County Democrat Party Chairman and employee of Democrat Knox County Clerk Mike Padgett emailed a response to me about a blog post; I have been questioned by a couple of sources that were inquiring about his work schedule. I was unaware what Jim Gray did for a living or where he was employed before that time.
I could care less about Jimmy's work schedule, however, he responded and here is the quote from his email.
"1) our public access computer labs are open for 116 hours per week; I spend 40 of those hours (of my own choosing) at the labs, and 2) there is a common practice of someone taking a personal day off; Knox County employees are allowed such days."
I appreciate Jim responding to my blog, as the popularity of my blog continues to increase daily. A couple of questions that came into my mind when reading his email are;
I wonder how many Sheriff's deputies, librarians, park employees, teachers, employees of the Property Assessor, Register of Deeds, Court Clerk, Trustee, Mayor's office, Election Commission, Jail Officers, Health Department, Public Building Authority get the privilege of selecting their own 40 hours?
Is this for all Knox County employees or only for Jim Gray?

I wonder how many Sheriff's deputies, librarians, park employees, teachers, employees of the Property Assessor, Register of Deeds, Court Clerk, Trustee, Mayor's office, Election Commission, Jail Officers, Health Department, Public Building Authority get the privilege of selecting their own 40 hours?
Is this for all Knox County employees or only for Jim Gray?
KC Democrat Chairman and Commenting on Brian's Blog
On August 12, 2005 at 10:50 am the Knox County Democrat Chairman and employee of Democrat Mike Padgett sent an email criticizing the requirements for commenting on Brian's Blog.
"I would have commented directly on the blog, but I find that you, like Bush, don't allow comment by those not "in the group""
This is my personal blog, should anyone desire to be put in the system to comment send your name, address and email address to the administrator and I will consider your request. This is the same procedure that Jimmy has for the Knox County Democrat Party's Democrat Forum.
By the way Jimmy, I appreciate the compliment about Bush, you and I agree, I am sure, that he is a Great President.

WVLT Channel 8 Scoops Their Rivals
I am a fan of WVLT Channel 8, it is rewarding to see the newsteam scoop their rivals and on Wednesday evening that is just what they did somewhere around 6:30 pm - 6:35 pm. Channel 8 began reporting that the gold Chevy Venture van had been located in Northern Kentucky.
With Kellie Parker on the anchor desk and a live video feed from WLWT at a hotel site in Kentucky. Channel 8 scooped their rivals. With 5 minutes passing WBIR had a commercial and WATE had national news about Peter Jennings death that occured a few days before.
Way to go Volunteer TV Channel 8.

31 years ago today
31 years ago today, Richard Milhous Nixon resigned the presidency. Henry Kissinger accepted at 11:35 am according to a copy of the resignation letter. On August 9, 1974, I was 11 days from being 8 years old.
My first political memory is playing in the living room floor and looking up at the television as the special report broke in and Nixon was climbing aboard the helicopter that would transport him out, as he gave his infamous wave.
As you can see from my blog there are alot of Nixon quotes. I have enjoyed his books and maintain a small Nixon library.
How would Nixon survive in the world of politics today? I believe that American's are more forgiving, after all we allowed the Clinton's to serve 8 years without prosecution, and then New York elected Hilleary.

Hilleary Clinton gets an Appointment
Fox News reported yesterday that New York Republican Prosecutor Jeannine Pirro, a tough on crime and criminals will announce on Wednesday August 10, 2005. Pirro, appeared on Foz News on Monday August 8th, to confirm that Yes, she will announce.
One of Pirro's message will be if Hilleary wants to move to higher office, go ahead and let her and don't let her use the people of New York.
But then again, that is the Clinton legacy, Use everybody you can for Bill and Hill's personal satisfaction.
Here's pulling for Pirro!

Breaking NEWS RIP - Peter Jennings
Peter Jennings according to ABC this evening has passed on.....Peter Jennings made ABC News a leader in national news reporting.
I am loyal to specific news shows, locally I watch WVLT TV Channel 8, while Peter Jennings was on the anchor desk I always watched ABC. He handled the 2000 election returns, better than anybody else. He could adlib better than anybody in the business. He survived and overcame obstacles, like not graduating high school.
Since Peter left in April, I have watched Bob Schaeffer on CBS, more than the others. I refused to watch Rather.
I have not found a real home for national news, I watch Fox News during the day and evening especially on breaking news, however, I typically watch a national news show at 6:30 pm.
Peter Jennings, God Speed, You made a difference. The Good do die Young. To the next generation, stay in school, and don't smoke.

Teachers Wonder Why?
This morning I was reading blogs off the Rocky Top Brigade and Tennessee Liberal had this picture from Thursday August 4, 2005.
I have always advocated for additional dollars for teachers and school employees. However, this gives people fuel to prove the argument that money spent for public education is money wasted.
Teachers wonder why "they do not get the respect that they deserve". I realize that I sometimes will make a mistake with spelling or grammar, however, I am a sales/marketing guy that is active in politics.
I am not an educator that is teaching the next generation. That then blames everybody else when academic achievement scores come back low.

City Council Candidate Elections
This morning The Knoxville News-Sentinel has a story about the first City Council forum attended by all active candidates. I hope that the KNS and other media outlets will cover the races. What is worse than voters not voting is for voters to cast uninformed votes.
I do not live in the City of Knoxville. In 1988, I lived within the city limits for about six months.
I enjoy living in the county and should be able to do so without threat or persuasion. The greatest threat to myself and the other land-owners in the county is forced annexation. It is equivalent to armed robbery.
An organization that I have maintained an active membership in since the Victor Ashe administration is Citizens for Home Rule. This organization has NEVER lost a lawsuit challenging the City of Knoxville and its aggressive annexation posture.

Novak Should Have Gone Farther
I have watched the video clip that The Political Teen posted. Yesterday, I heard this story and thought "Wow" Novak must have lost it. After watching it, I think Carville should thank his lucky soul that he is not waking up this morning with a bruise on the side of his head.
The issue that CNN Strategy Session was discussing was Republican Congresswoman Katherine Harris (Sarasota, Fl) running for the U.S. Senate seat in Florida. Carville didn't like Novak's comments, so in typical Carvillian fashion he begins to interrupt and when Novak is attempting to maintain his position and finish his statement. Carville attacks him inferring that 1) Novak has no backbone and 2) that he caters to the right wing.
CNN should sanction Carville for his lack of focus on the issue and the personal attack on Novak, a fellow panelist.
Surely, Carville doesn't believe what he says, he is simply carrying the water for his clients. Some of which include Bill and Hillary Clinton, Al Gore and the rest of the radical left wingers in this country.
Remember, Katherine Harris scares the heck out of the liberal establishment. Because she stands up for what is right and legal, she didn't cave into the liberal whackos in Florida in 2000 to deliver the presidency to Gore.
Now, for those Al Gore lovers out there, Florida would have been irrelevant had his home state of Tennessee voted for him. I will remind you that Albert didn't return to Tennessee until he lost the state. Paybacks are heck.

Teddy Bart's Roundtable Farewell
I have been an avid listener to the Teddy Bart Roundtable for a year or so. Teddy and Karlen have never been on TV or radio in Knoxville. I have resorted to listening to the show late at night via the internet while I pound the rock in my office. I have argued back, laughed and experienced many different emotions at all the various shows. The last show was broadcast on Friday July 29th. I have waited until tonight to listen to the last show, hoping that it wasn't true that they are going off the air.
I hope that it comes back as Teddy and Karlen have been part of my daily - nightly activities. The Public Forum has been an instrumental source of news, as I get the news that I can't get in Knoxville.
Hurry Back, Thanks for the memories.
Cheers!
