You first read about it here at Brian's Blog on August 6, 2006. Yesterday there was this story on WBIR. This morning there is this story in the Knoxville News-Sentinel.
There was an abbreviated discussion at the School Board workshop this past Monday. The School System contends they do not want to spend county tax dollars to repair the septic system for the Market and the barber shop, they will maintain it for the Volunteer Fire Department. The School System is missing the point. It is not their responsibility to fix the error, it is the contractors responsibility.
The contractor was performing site prep for the new high school and got into the septic system of these businesses. The contractor should repair the damage not the school system and not the taxpayers.
These businesses have been here for years. The School System bought the property less than 15 years ago. There was some minimal finger pointing at the workshop, saying that the septic system was never permitted. The septic system was put in prior to the school district purchasing the property. If the school district didn't research the property in the process of titling and deed, then they purchased it as is.
This Saturday August 26, 2006 the Hardin Valley Community will Rally to support the Market and the barber shop at the Market. Here is the contact information for the School Board Members including the 2 new members that will be at the September 6, 2006 School Board Meeting. Hardin Valley is in the 6th School Board District.
