Hardin Valley High School Part II

This from WATE this evening. The facts are the school board was informed they could build a 2000 student school for $40.0 million dollars. There are no more dollars for cost overruns.

A majority of the school board set precedent when the cost overruns for Cedar Bluff Primary were take from funds that were allocated for Cedar Bluff Intermediate. This high school must be built for 2000 and the $6.0 million in cost overruns must come from the next project behind it. Powell Middle. This was first proposed here on Brian's Blog on Friday August 4, 2006 at 1:21 pm

School Board Member-Elect Thomas Deakins was quick to leave comments on the Friday post. Brian's Blog responded immediately and clarified Mr. Deakins comment. Brian's Blog put a shout out to Deakins on this additional post on Sunday August 6, 2006 at 5:47 pm regarding a School System decision involving his district.

Deakins has not responded, Brian's Blog was contacted today by multiple media sources concerning the School system's decision to rid the Hardin Valley community of its landmarks.

When you see a story on the TV news, newspaper or other source. Remember the story was broken here.

Brian,

I am looking into this issue as I need to get all of the details regarding "everything" before I make a comment.

I am not the "current" BOE member so I suggest you reach out to the current School Board member and make sure this is discussed at the mid month workshop. As you know this can be put on the agenda and the Board can discuss.

I would ask everyone that is concerned about these landmarks in the HV area to call the school system, write letters and make sure this is addressed at the mid month workshop. I think the public should have the ability to understand all of the details.

Your solution - rob Peter to pay Paul and shifting funds to projects is not the right answer. I am not for that and I do not think other School Board members will be for this.

Glad you broke the story and you deserve all the credit. I think details help people understand the story more, fyi.

Thomas, when you say, "Your solution - rob Peter to pay Paul and shifting funds to projects is not the right answer." you are incorrect regarding the Brian's Blog position.

I am a REPUBLICAN! A REPUBLICAN that believes in a government that is efficient and accountable. Knox County elected a majority of individuals in May and August that believe in efficient and accountable government. The REPUBLICANS swept all five countywide positions. I am proud of that for obvious reasons.

Unfortunately, for you, Thomas, the school board was given a budget. They haven't complied with the budget.

If you give your child a $5.00 allowance and they go to Walmart and go to the check out lane (self service or regular and attempt to purchase a $10.00 game, what happens?

My record on the school board will reveal that I never did this. The current school board set precedent about 1.5 years ago.

Unfortunately, Governance and our legal system is based on precedance. If the school board treats this issue differently than they did for the people/children of Ceadr Bluff, how do you and the other School Boarders explain treating one area of the community seperate from the others.

I thought all candidates for school board and school board members want to do what's right and to make a difference for all the children regardless of race, status and residence. Is this true? If so, why has Cedar Bluff been treated so differently?
