In 1992 the Tennessee General Assembly passed legislation that "removed politics from school governance" This legislation was promoted by an organization called TSBA Tennessee School Board Association. Every school district with the exception of two belong to this organization, using taxpayer dollars to support the organization.
The TSBA host an annual convention every year at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. This years convention is November 13 - 15, 2005. Hundreds of school board members, superintendents and school staff members will be traveling to Nashville.
The Convention Schedule can be found here.
The Tentative Convention Topics, includes three interesting breakouts.
"Recruiting Excellent Board Member Candidates". This eliminates politics from school governance?
"Elected vs Appointed Superintendents." The assumption is that you will receive your talking points in this breakout.
"Effectively Evaluating Your Employees."The law in 1992, gave school boards one employee, The Superintendent. However TSBA shows this as a plural definition.
