The public is invited to a meeting about the new West Knox County high school construction schedule beginning at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 13, at Hardin Valley Elementary School.

The school is set to open by Fall 2008 to freshmen and sophomores. “On the forty million dollar price tag, we’ve had to cut things like ballfields and parking lots,” said Charles “Chuck” James, 6th District member of the Knox County Board of Education.

James said building a larger school means losing baseball and softball fields and reducing student parking from 800 to 200 spaces.

Ballfields and parking could be added at a later date, James said, estimating baseball lighting would cost about $100,000.
