Ford Ousted In First Vote - Shame On, Senator Michael Williams Of Maynardville

In this mornings Tennessean is the report that the State Senate last night took the first of two votes to void the election and effectively oust the sister of indicted ex-senator and uncle of United States Senate Democrat Harold Ford, Jr John Ford.

Senator Michael Williams of Maynardville abstained from the vote, thus identifying a lack of a backbone. He can redeem himself today 1/18/2006 by voting to void the election and ousting Ophelia Ford, the aunt of United States Senate Democrat Candidate Harold Ford, Jr and sister to Harold Ford, Sr - Former Congressman Harold Ford, Sr. was implicated in the U.S. House banking scandal, her other brother is indicted ex-senator John Ford.

I am extremely disappointed with state Republicans right now for several reasons Brian...in various capacities, many otherwise-good people have demonstrated a lack of backbone or the strange ability to turn yellow under pressure. I am very, very sad for the future of the State, whether the GOP wins a legislative majority in November (which, as more cowards appear, grows less likely) or not.

Is there any good reason (other than the soon-return and ultimate triumph of Our Lord) why I should not feel both sad and angry?

Unfortunately Dave, Elected Officials like State Rep. Mike Williams are causing great harm to our party. Our state party chairman Bob Davis, Jr. is doing a great job in betaing the drums against Governor Phillip and attempting to obtain a top teir candidate.

I have not hit the panic button, yet. However maybe an Oatney for Governor campaign could be in your future. (lol)

You know, I was really hoping to wait a few years before trying to pull such a political stunt!

I feel so strongly, however, that Bredesen needs to be opposed that I don't understand why, if no one else comes forward, one of our party leaders could not put themselves forward.

If we let Bredesen go unopposed, not only are we doing the people of Tennessee a great injustice, but we are helping the Democrats nationally in ways that can only partly be fathomed.

I too believe that we must field a legitmate candidate to oppose Bredesen, for the sake of our Republican legislative candidates.

We had Senator Tommy Kilby beat, until Governor Phillip and he traveled all over the senate district and Gov. Phillip said that he needed Kilby to fix TNCare.

Little did the people of Morgan, Roane, Fentress, Scott and Campbell Counties know that they were re-electing their own death warrants.
