Marley & Me - Farragut High School's Summer Reading Program

On May 20, 2008 Brian's Blog informed you of the Farragut High School Summer Reading Program. This is the fourth year that I have participated and I have five more years to go. However, the program is different this year than the past three years. This year everyone must read a 10 page essay and then choose one of four books. I have decided to read all four. The first one that I read is Marley & Me. Two reasons that I read Marley & Me first. One, Pamela Treacy in responding to the May 20th post said it was a good book. Two, it is the only hardback that I have of the four books.

The book is beyond description. My wife caught me several times laughing out loud. Even today as she and one of my sons were in the swimming pool. She told me that she saw me laughing out loud by the pool reading the book. Marley is a lovable, adhd dog that John and Jenny Grogan obtain early in their marriage. Marley is a riot through the years of three children and moving from South Florida to Pennsylvania.

If you love animals or have fond memories of an animal growing up, this book is for you. You will be laughing and at the end you will face the sadness. This book will stay on my bookshelf and stay in my library. I could see me reading it again in a year or two. I understand that a movie has been made and is set to release near Christmas.

My husband received the edition that has pictures of the dogs and family. I heard they were making it into a movie with Jennifer Anniston. Oh brother.

The movie is done and Yes, it is Jennifer Anniston. I like Anniston, especially from the Friends days. It appears that you do not. That's o.k. different strokes for different folks.

In the hardback that I have, there are some photos of Marley inside the front and back covers.

I do like her, but as of late--the tabliod distracts from her roles. I guess I just didn't think they needed to hire one of the highest paid actors for that role.

I loved this book!! I can't wait for the movie. I think Jennifer Aniston was the perfect choice for Jenny. I was, and still am, a huge fan of Friends. I can't wait to see the movie.
