Lloyd Daugherty chickened out today as a candidate for Knox County Commission Sixth District. Word among politico's is that the TCU financial records and legal contests involving TCU and Lloyd would have been exposed to the media and non-Lloyd fans.
When Lloyd realized the scrutiny that he would expose himself and his organization to, he chickened out.

Brian,
What is TCU? I should know but don't. You got me on this.

Tennessee Conservative Union.
Wasn't the TCU began as an opposition group to giving the Panama Canal to the Panamanians?
Brian,
DUH! Yes, of course! SIlly me for not remembering/knowing. I don't follow TCU and I don't have a FAX line or FAX machine (I remember - I think - the TCU being described as two guys with an over heated FAX machine) so my question now is:
What are the issues concerning TCU and Mr. Daugherty that would cause him to avoid scrutiny/exposure?

not sure about the panama canal, but it fits because they have been an organization that battles the Republican's that they have personal issues with like Howard Baker, Lamar Alexander and Don Sundquist.
SteveMule, actually it is two guys and a fax machine (overheated was never inserted)
The TCU has a yearly Reagan Dinner and the proceeds "fund" the organization. The minute that Lloyd picked up a petition, I began receiving emails and phone calls saying that the TCU funds from the Reagan Day Dinner would receive scrutiny.
Did Lloyd hear that and that influence his decision, I doubt it. Where those idle comments, I don't know.
According to it's web site the American Conservative Union was formed in 1964, I think after Barry Goldwater was defeated.
It was key in opposing the Panama Canal Treaty, which a number of Republicans and conservatives, including John Wayne, supported.
Most people I know never thought Loid would go through wit it.
anonymous, lloyd is Tennessee Conservative Union not American Conservative Union. He doesn't support a national group as he is still a seperatist, not recognizing the merger of the North and South.
Brian,
Why would the scrutiny of Reagan Day Dinner procceds be an issue? It seems to me that everyone that went to the dinner would know that. Are there issues conceerning fraud or missue? Money going for booze and hookers instead of FAX paper?
ALso, the "overheated" didn't come from you - I remember that, tho I can't remember who it was. It's not really important who said it, I just want you to know that I wasn't trying to put words in your mouth.
